A simple way to remember your self-care needs

I don’t know about you, but quarantining is getting harder for me. Last week, I was so full of ideas about things to do while at home that I wrote about it here. This week, I feel tired and in need of rest and self-care.

A few years ago, I came up with the acronym below to help me remember how to tend to my needs. Try it out and see how it works for you.

Think of the word “FRESH.” It reminds me of newness and being revived. Now replace the last letter H with P, which will give the word “FRESP.” This is what it stands for:

Food = Are you eating nutritious food?

Relationships = Are you connecting with restorative relationships?

Exercise = Have you been doing any physical activity e.g. working out, dancing, running, walking, doing yoga, etc?

Sleep = Are you getting enough sleep?

Prayer = Have you prayed for God’s help?

These things can be done in any order. For example, you can choose to pray first. The acronym is just to help you remember each item.

Knowing what you need is just the first step. The second and more important step is actually doing something! So, what do you need and what can you do this weekend? Look here for more ideas and take care of yourself!
