Hello Lovely People!!!

My name is Ajabeyang (Ajab) Amin. I am originally from Cameroon, Central Africa where I grew up. I’ve been in the U.S. for about 19 years now as an adult.

I started this website in 2019 as a mental health resource for anyone who can relate. I used to think I was mostly writing for Africans, but the more I write, I realize that a lot of what I discuss are human problems. We all struggle, so we can all use some help, even if it is just reading something that provides a different perspective.

I am a licensed psychologist and a Christian counselor in Pennsylvania. I have a Doctorate in Counseling Psychology (PsyD) from Northwest University and a Master of Public Health (MPH) from University of Michigan. I went to Penn State University for my Bachelors of Science in Biobehavioral Health. I was an Executive Contributor for Brainz Magazine and a recipient of Brainz 500 Global Award in 2021. I have a private practice where I see clients in Pennsylvania; to get more information, check my practice website.

While doing life in multiple parts of the world, conducting research, going through multiple years of training, and seeing clients from various backgrounds, I have acquired insight that has inspired some of what you will read here. Additionally, being a highly sensitive person has allowed me to see deeper aspects of myself and humanity, which informs how and why I write.

Having lived in Africa and now in the U.S., I have connected with people from different backgrounds, ethnicities, ages, genders, marital status, and walks of life. We all experience challenges, but some difficulties immigrants face are unique and difficult to navigate. I realize that the notion of mental issues can be viewed negatively (to say the least) especially among people from collectivistic cultures. But then, for anyone breathing, there are moments when we have felt distressed or concerned about something. In those moments, we have sought advice (hopefully) from friends, family, or mentors. Think of this blog as one of those resources! Click on the search button (on the top right) and type in to see if I have written about your issue or look through the Categories (on your right). If nothing else, view my resource and self-care pages.

Last but definitely not least, I am a follower of Jesus, so some posts are written from a Christian perspective. But, all are welcome here regardless of your faith. Even if you don’t believe the Bible is the inspired Word of God, you must admit it has some solid teachings and principles on how to live a good life. I guess that’s why it is called The Good Book.

Please, feel free to engage with me by leaving a message through the contacts page, commenting below the posts, or getting to know me here.

Note that this website is not a substitute for seeking psychotherapy and I am not playing the role of your therapist, I’m just offering thoughts and tools. However, if you will like me to be your therapist, reach out through www.ajabtherapy.com

Peace and blessings,

Dr. Amin
