Relationship Series: Are your relationships surviving the COVID-19 pandemic?

You are currently viewing Relationship Series: Are your relationships surviving the COVID-19 pandemic?

For the next few weeks, I’ll be writing a series on reducing relationship tension during this period of COVID-19. It’s been over two months since the Coronavirus has forced us to limit social and physical contact. While some people living alone may be experiencing increased isolation, those living together may be ‘driving each other crazy.’ There are higher rates of domestic violence, and increased tension within romantic and family relationships. Some of us may be finding it difficult with our young kids and our teenagers (or our parents). Although the spring semester is over, some college students may have preferred to be on campus than stay at home for this extended time. It could also be challenging for those living with roommates especially if you don’t get along.

All of these relationship stressors can be magnified by the fact that we have limited contact with other people, and we don’t know when this pandemic will be over.

On a human level, we thrive from a balance of time alone and time with others. And we are social beings that obtain real benefits from in-person relationships and physical touch. We are all being deprived of these benefits during this time.

Therefore, look out for the next 3 to 4 weeks as I post tips and tools to help your romantic relationships, relationships with family members, relationships with roommates/friends, and deal with the loss of social contact. In the meantime, read these articles I wrote on managing relationships and these ones on dealing with coronavirus.
